Condolences to the Family of Gary Leonardi

Gary “Leo” F. Leonardi, 70, husband of Tarja Butcher, of Perth, NY suddenly passed away Monday January 26, 2026.

Born June 15, 1955, in Albany, NY. He was the son of the late Frederick Leonardi and Jeanne Burhans Leonardi. Gary attended Colonie Central High School and graduated in 1973.

Gary dedicated his life to and was a passionate and successful standard bred horse trainer. Gary kept himself busy with many projects. Gary’s spare time was spent taking care of his meticulous lawn, cooking for his family, including his beloved dog Finnegan. Gary dedicated his life to his children and grandchildren.

Gary is survived by his wife, Tarja, daughters Lorri (Anthony), Emily (Ashley), son Jimmy, and daughter in law BobbieSue, grandchildren Maddie and James, and ex-wife and longtime friend, Pam.

He is also survived by his stepmother, Eleanor, brothers Larry, Freddie, Billy (Nancy) and sisters Diane (Paul), Chris (Mario), and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents Fred and Jeanne, his late wife Melody, and sister Bonnie.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation on Monday February 2, 2026, from 5pm-7pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave, Albany, NY. There will be a celebration of life in the Spring.

In lieu of flowers for Gary, memorial donations can be made to Boston Children’s Hospital, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
