Beware of Phishing Scam

Yesterday, a horse owner was a target of a phishing attempt and he called to make Saratoga Casino Hotel and Saratoga Harness Horsepersons aware.
The Horse Owner,
Received a phone call stating that he was from the Saratoga Race office and needed updated information for new purse distribution forms we are going to have in 2026.
The person had a conversation with the owner about how his horses had been racing as well as about us cancelling racing the day before due to snow.
He was able to get credit card information from the horse owner to be “on file.”
The phone call came from the phone number 838-800-2495
After the phone call, Lawrence called SCH horsemen's bookkeeper to ask about this. She explained to him the following:
This phone call did not originate from Saratoga Casino Hotel.
The race office does not handle these forms, nor was it open during the time he would have received the phone call.
There are no new forms for 2026.
SCH would never ask for sensitive information over the phone as it all has to be submitted to us on documentation.
We do not accept any credit cards, nor would we keep them on file.
The horsemen's bookkeeper did explain to him that it did sound like a phishing scam. He left a voicemail later in the day and stated the following:
He contacted his credit card company and shut down the card that he gave out.
The Credit Card company confirmed that the card had been attempted to be used 3 times, once at Big Dee’s Tack Shop in Ohio, a well-known horseman’s tack shop.
Thank you to Stacie Cachaza and John Matarazzo for sharing this information with our racing community.
