SHHA Communication 11/18/21

Significant Items:

  • We have added a week (3 days, December 19-21) of racing to the 2021 racing schedule.
  • The proposed racing schedule for 2002 has been submitted to the NYSGC for approval.  Racing is planned to start on Saturday, February 5, at 5:00.  The schedule will be for forty-six (46) continuous weeks totaling 150 days of racing, ending on or about December 20.  The proposed racing schedule is available on the SCH site and will be posted on the SHHA website when it is approved by the NYSGC.
  • Due to several requests from our members we are currently looking into the potential to have an outrider/marshal.  The position requirements were posted on the SHHA website.  Candidates will be reviewed during December and will be finalized in January.  John Hoagland, Jr., Joe Battaglia, and Scott Mongeon are working on this item.
  • Due to some recent issues for some members not being able to renew their NYSGC racing license we are having our lawyer look into the relevant requirements.  We will issue more information once we know it.  John Hoagland, Jr. has the lead for this item.
  • We are currently working with SCH to develop a detailed emergency plan for off hours.  We will publish more information when it is available.
  • As a reminder, one owner (Jeff Cantine) and two trainer/driver (George Merton and Scott Mongeon) Board members’ three (3) year terms are up this year.  Ballots for the election have been mailed out.  Counting of ballots will be on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at noon in the paddock snack bar.  Members are welcome to attend.
  • The SHHA Thanksgiving/Holiday Luncheon for horsemen has been rescheduled to Thursday, December 2nd, beginning at 11:30 in the Track Kitchen.  Take out is available.
  • The SHHA will cover the premium for January, 2022 for members enrolled in the health insurance program.  Please contact Karen Kamal if you have any questions.
  • Annual awards will be presented in the Winners Circle on Sunday, December 12th, during the racing program.  Please contact Karen Kamal if you have questions.

General Items:

  • The SHHA has obtained information regarding additional race bike/equipment insurance for individuals.  This insurance is in addition to the race bike insurance coverage provided to members of the SHHA.  Members will be able to purchase insurance at the rate of $16 per thousand dollars of coverage with a $250 deductible.  The minimum policy amount is $125.  Please see John Hoagland, Jr. if you have questions and/or you are interested in a policy.
  • If maintenance/weather necessitates a change to the current schedule for the Main Track trainers will be notified by Club Text message from SCH.  Please call Amy Gentile (518-581-5747) if you need access to Club Text.
  • The Board currently has several committees which review and address relevant items with the rest of the Board and recommend actions to address these items.  You do not need to be a Board member to be on a committee, so if you would like to help out your fellow horse people please feel free to join a committee.  We would greatly appreciate your involvement and support!
  • Racing programs are available to download from the SHHA website.

If you have any questions for the Board, please do not hesitate to contact one of the twelve (12) current Board members or the Horsemen’s Representative.  We would like to work together with you to support you in any way we reasonably can.  Thank you, in advance, for your support!

Our next meeting is currently scheduled for December 16, 2021 at 12:30 in the Recreation Room adjacent to the Track Kitchen.
